Why am I running for Arizona State House in Legislative District 17?

Since the last election, I have become even more seriously concerned about the direction of our country. I believe Arizona is still a conservative state with traditional constitutional values. The legislation coming out of our present federal government is threatening the liberty, security, prosperity, and opportunity of our American way of life. The only hope now for preserving this way of life is for States to stand up against this legislation and push back by aggressively asserting our constitutional state authority. In order to do this, we must elect constitutional conservatives who will stand up and demand state sovereignty, and be willing to govern conscientiously at the state level. The candidates we elect to state offices in this election could be more important than the candidates we elect to federal offices.

What are my qualifications?

I am a retired physician who has lived in Arizona for 40 years. I am also a wife and mother. I have served as Southern Arizona District Director for Arizona Medical Association, and served on the Governor’s Commission for Maternal and Child Health Care. I have served on the boards and held offices in Tucson Society of Women Physicians, Tanque Verde Valley Association, and Pima County Flood Advisory Board. When my children were in high school, I was elected to Tanque Verde Unified School Board, where I served as president. I presently serve on the Pima County Republican Party Election Integrity Task Force, and am President of Pima County Republican Women's Club.

What issues do I consider especially important?

ELECTION INTEGRITY

Since 2002, at least half of our elections have been considered stolen by one or the other of the political parties. The last election was particularly egregious, and outraged citizens have demanded to know what is happening with the integrity of our elections. When citizens lose confidence in their elections, our democratic republic is lost, and nothing else matters. Precincts must be smaller, so it will be easier to vote in person. Voter ID must be required. Mail-in ballots must be limited. No early voting, no “voting centers,” no ballot harvesting. No voting machines with internet connections.

EDUCATION

In the past I was always a great fan of our public schools, but they are now failing our children. Half the children coming out of high school are under-performing. I support legislation leading to schools that will promote success for our children. No mandatory masks, no mandatory vaccination. Our children are a year behind as a result of Covid, and the focus should be on basics of “reading, writing, and arithmetic,” NOT Critical Race Theory, Comprehensive Sexuality Education, or 1619 Project. Children who are not succeeding in public school must have the option of charter schools, private schools, and religious schools available to them, and the education tax funds must follow the student.

GUN RIGHTS

Thanks to the great work of some gun rights organizations, such as Arizona Citizens Defense League, Arizona is the number one state for gun rights. With more anti-law enforcement legislation and “defund the police” movements gaining traction nationwide, and the decrease in police departments, citizens are feeling that their safety may depend on their ability to defend themselves. Gun sales are at all-time highs. Here in Arizona, Democrats filed 21 anti-gun bills in the last legislative session, all of which were defeated. However, with only a one or two member Republican majority in both the Senate and the House, we must be concerned about losing our Second Amendment rights if we don’t elect representatives who will defend our right to bear arms.

About Me

Growing up in a very poor family, I was the first person in my entire extended family who had ever even graduated from high school. I was fortunate enough to go to college on a full scholarship, and eventually to medical school. People in poverty need the support of social programs that help them to become INDEPENDENT and not DEPENDENT. What it costs to help and educate our children is often paid back many times over as they become productive citizens and taxpayers. The qualities of liberty, personal freedom, prosperity, and opportunity have been our heritage, and I am a Conservative because I am willing to fight to conserve them!
